'New Rap' Is About More Than Just Cars and Women – It’s Also About Money

The newest album by urban rap artist Mystikal has been creating quite a buzz in the entertainment industry as of late.  The rumor is that a new, artistically mature form of rap called “New Rap” is about to explode onto the scene when Mystikal’s forthcoming album, I Got My Hoes, is released in September.

"If I can get my hoes by [September], it’ll be awight,” Mystikal quipped when questioned about the album’s much anticipated release date.

Unlike Mystikal’s previous fourteen albums within the last two years, his latest work includes cameos and vocal accompaniments from friends like Snoop Dogg, Silkk the Shocker, and Lil’ Sherman.  Mystikal describes his musical talent as “untouchable” but he doesn’t mind if fellow artists have something to add to his music.

“Yeah, I axed my boys if they wanted to help me out.  Sho’ nuff, they did.”

Besides producing the album under his record label, No Limit Entertainment, Master P also lends his vocal skills to his buddy, screaming “Uhhhh!” at key moments in 15 out of the 20 songs on the CD, like You Hoes Ain’t No Good, Flossin’ Wit My Boys, and You Hoes Ain’t Flossin’ Wit My Boys.

The major controversy that surrounds I Got My Hoes stems from its revolutionary subject matter.

“We doin’ sumthin diff’rnt wif this album.  I like to rap about how I like wearin’ gold and platinum, and how nobody can kill me and my crew, how we won’t stop til we make it to the top, and how I like hoes who know how to f*ck, oh yeah, and how I like to drink champagne and be rich, too.”

What sets the new project apart from most other rappers today is Mystikal’s unique view on money.  Somehow, Mystikal manages to include a statement in every song concerning the usefulness and apparent abundance of cash in his daily life.  Mystikal claims that a while back, he noticed how fans of his music tend to show an interest in money and the many things it can buy.

When we asked a fan if the constant reminders of Mystikal’s seemingly endless cash flow in his music brought about jealous or resentful feelings because of the impossibility of living a similar lifestyle, he stated, “Naw.  I’m goin’ be a high baller like Mystikal one day.  I already gots money and b*tches.  Look here, I gots a Rolex.  Now, did you want mustard on that Whopper?”
